Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the world’s 10th largest by purchasing power parity, is entering a transformative phase in energy and technology. The country is home to around 1.6 million metric tons of nickel reserves, nearly half of global production, making it indispensable to the lithium-ion battery supply chain. With a clear national roadmap to raise renewable energy’s share to 23% by 2025 and 31% by 2050, demand for battery energy storage systems is rising at record pace. In 2023 alone, clean energy investment surged by 78% year-on-year, reaching nearly US$500 million, signaling a new era of growth for sustainable technologies.
